Actor Headshots

Actor headshots or portraits are among the most important attachments in an actor's resume. When still building a name in the industry, actors need to show directors that they are best suited for the part. Headshots will help the employer determine whether the actor is worth an interview or audition.

Because of this, actor headshots usually show different facial expressions and appearances. Ideally, actor headshots should convey the desired message with as little help from get-ups or attires as possible. To achieve this, it is important to hire a good photographer; ideally, someone who can coach you from preparation to the actual shoot.

Some of the best in the industry are Jerry Avenaim, Aramasa Taku, Eve Arnold, and James Quattrochi. Since a good headshot can pave the way to great opportunities, some new actors are willing to pay a hefty sum just to have their pictures shot by a pro.

Typical actor headshots are printed on an 8" x 10" size although press shots and lobby prints may have different formats. Lately, portraits have been found in new marketing tools called comp cards also known as composite, zed, or sed cards. These cards contain 2 or more images, one of which is the portrait while the rest are of the actor's different poses.
